Good to know

LOCATION! Close to everything. Stunning mountain & desert views from camp. Watch a beautiful sunrise over the Chisos Basin. You can see Emory Peak. Santa Elena Canyon is also in view. Private with nice space between campsites, but understand there is no tall vegetation here to create a buffer in the desert. It's a wide open expanse of sky and desert views that will not disappoint most adventure seekers.

ADULTS 18 AND UP ONLY.. NO KIDS OR PETS.. High clearance vehicle is helpful but not required. The dirt road can be bumpy due to weather. The road may be temporarily impassable if it rains. Stay at your own risk. We are not responsible for loss, damages or accidents.

*No smoking, candles or flame inside the tent . *No generators. *Parking barriers. Do not move or drive over or around them. *Don't take firewood from other campsites. *Zip up the tent doors and vents when you leave for the day to keep blowing dust, rain and critters out. *To protect the security of all guests, no outside visitors are allowed without prior approval. Thank you. *Don't litter. Keep loose items from blowing away. Trash dumpster in my driveway for your use. All trash must be bagged and boxes broken down. Thank you. *Sorry, no pets allowed. (dogs are not allowed on trails in the national park, fyi.) *No fireworks, gun fire, hunting. *Big Bend is an international dark sky location! One of the darkest skies in the lower 48 states. Meaning, stargazing is exceptional here and many guests are here for that purpose. Please be considerate and respectful with your campsite lighting as to not affect stargazing for other guests, or yourself. THIS INCLUDES LEAVING YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. This is very disruptive to other guests. The desert is a wide open space. There is no tall vegetation to block lights from affecting others here :) NO spotlights, strobe lights, light bars on your vehicle, or extremely bright lights of any kind may be used. RED lights are much more friendly and less offensive to others at camp and don't attract bugs or affect stargazing. **Quiet time 9 pm to 9 am. Remember that sounds carries FAR and wide in open spaces such as the desert. Thank you for being considerate of other guests! **SMALL Campfires are allowed per the burn ban in the firepits if it's not windy. Be safe and responsible. Put out your fire when done. COLLECTING *ANY* MATERIAL FROM THE PROPERTY TO BURN IS PROHIBITED, and is the fastest way to get your stay cancelled if you violate this rule. Thank you for respecting the land!

Mel's place was everything I was looking for and was exactly as described. The location is close to everything in Terlingua and with easy access to the park, and a very short drive to everything there is to do in the area. The property itself is close to all of the stores/restaurants/etc but feels as remote and serene as you can get. I've been to Terlingua several times, and Mel's place offered the best opportunity for looking at the stars and surrounding mountains that I've ever had in the area. This is essentially turn-key camping. No setup or gear required, just arrive to the campsite and enjoy the tent/table/other amenities and your surroundings.

Great tent, everything as pictured. Mel communicated everything and was extremely responsive. Location was perfect, out of the town just enough to feel secluded, close enough to be at the park or Terlingua ghost town in no time! Will be back!!

This was a really cool well spaced out camp. Spaced out-too if you will because we came for the meteor shower viewing and the dark skies. 10/10 cute, fun, secluded place. The views were incredible! The sunrise and moonrise start right at the horizon so if you came for a nature show this is the spot.

I call dibbs on Site 7! While a few other of Mel's sites were more optimal, with better views, and closer to the facilities, I like 7 better for being a little more isolated. I hope to stay at Site 7 again on many future visits. Mel's Place has a great combination of simplicity, comfort, and location. It is close to Study Butte and Terlingua. It is close to both the National Park and State Park. It is also close to a couple of the secret places in those parks that only long-time frequent visitors know about. Though near town, Mel's Place is isolated from town by a mountain ridge, and is actually closer to the wilderness areas. The dawn and dusk views across the desert are outstanding. The sky views on clear nights are astounding. We did not get to meet Melanie in person, but she was very communicative via the app, and quick to reply. She was very responsive when we alerted her to one small possible detail. I'd say more, but out of space. I look forward to returning!
