Staying at Mel's Place cabin is a fabulous way to see how easy it is to adjust to off grid life. The whole experience is really a non-issue, but it is probably a little different than what you are used to at home. Most guest say they didn't notice being "offgrid" at all. A few things to know about off grid life in the desert. Water is limited and a very precious resource. There will be plenty for your stay, but please be mindful of your use. (That's the whole idea! ) The electricity is provided by the sun. Due to natural power limitations mainly after dark, please do not bring other appliances (without permission) as overloading the system may cause an inconvenient power failure. **We are asking guests to bring their own queen bed linens & towels when possible. (bed pillows & extra blankets are provided). **We are in a severe drought here & water is even more precious than usual. **If you can't bring your own due to your travel itinerary, no worries! I will provide everything, but... PLEASE CONFIRM EITHER WAY when you book, SO THE CABIN CAN BE PROPERLY PREPARED FOR YOUR STAY** ** IF YOU WILL BE BRINGING YOUR OWN: You will need 4 pillowcases, queen sheets, towels/washcloths. *PROVIDED: kitchen towels, mattress pad, bath mats. **Thank you in advance for your consideration on this matter! **There is great AC and heat and a small, fridge in the kitchen ( no freezer ) **The composting toilet is clean, not gross at all and simple to use. **We look forward to hosting your vacation & introducing you to the magic of Big Bend!!

We also have a campground on the property. It's a good distance from the cabin and doesn't affect privacy.The cabin is at the very end of the road on my property, so no one will be driving by.

Private and feels remote, yet close to everything! The view of the Chisos Mountains will not disappoint. Big Bend National Park entrance is only 5 miles away. Big Bend Ranch State Park is 20 miles away. The Cottonwood Grocery store, gas, bank and restaurants are just a mile or so away. The lively town of Terlingua is just seven miles away. Mel's Place is quiet and safe with exceptional dark sky nights for stargazing and photography.

The cabin and 20 acres, mostly south and east of the cabin. The property line is directly behind the cabin, where you park, and the majority of the property lies in front to the east (towards the mountains and south towards the road in). Please do not wander across the property line north or west of the parking area. The neighbor is unforgiving. I live on site 400 feet from the cabin. Far enough to not affect your privacy or mine. The cabin is self check in. Our level of interaction is up to you. *Please have the airbnb app on your phone so that you can easily receive a message in case I need to reach you. Come experience the peaceful quiet serenity, the starry skies, the amazing nature, and the life changing vast beauty of Big Bend. L'endroit de Mel est exactement comme elle le décrit et l'illustre ! Aucune surprise ici. Ce que j'ai préféré, c'est l'atmosphère confortable et chaleureuse qu'elle a su créer grâce à toutes les commodités qu'elle met à disposition, ainsi que la façon créative dont elle a rendu l'espace unique et apaisant pour l'âme. Le porche est l'endroit idéal pour réfléchir, profiter et se ressourcer. J'ai aussi adoré regarder les oiseaux à la mangeoire ! Un endroit génial à tous points de vue ! La prochaine fois que je serai dans la région, je reviendrai ici. Mel's place is exactly as she describes and illustrates it! No surprises here. The best part about it, for me was the comfortable and cozy feel she has achieved by all of the necessities she provides plus the creative way in which she has made the space unique and settling to the soul. The porch is the perfect place to think, experience, and revive. I loved watching the birds at the bird feeder too! Great place all the way around! Next time I am in the area, I will stay here again.

J'ai adoré mon séjour chez Mel. C'était exactement comme décrit et parfait. Proche du parc et de tout ce dont vous pourriez avoir besoin, mais vous n'aurez besoin de rien si vous pouvez vous asseoir sur la terrasse pour regarder les oiseaux à la mangeoire et le soleil se lever et se coucher ! I loved my stay at Mel’s place. It was exactly as described and perfect. Close to park and anything you might need but you won’t need anything if you can sit on the patio and watch the birds at the feeder and the sun rise and set!

Mélanie est une hôte exceptionnelle : attentionnée, proactive, excellente communicante et décoratrice inspirée ! Son cottage dans le désert a été l’un des points forts de notre séjour dans la région de Big Bend, au Texas occidental. Il est idéalement situé près du parc national et du parc d’État, à proximité des restaurants et commodités de Terlingua, tout en étant dans un environnement désertique calme et paisible. C’est un cottage de glamping avec une ambiance détendue. Nous avons apprécié nos matinées à prendre un café sur la véranda couverte en regardant le soleil se lever sur les montagnes Chisos. Super hôte, super cadre, super hébergement de glamping ! Melanie is an exceptional host; thoughtful, proactive, great communicator, and an inspired decorator! Her cottage in the desert was among the highlights of our stay in the Big Bend area of West Texas. It was convenient to the National and State Park, close to Terlingua’s restaurants and amenities while at the same time in a quiet and peaceful desert setting. It’s a glamping cottage with a laid back vibe. We enjoyed mornings with coffee on the covered front porch watching the sun rise over the Chisos mountains. Great host, great setting, great glamping accommodations!

Il y a tellement de choses formidables à dire, comment pourrais-je toutes les énumérer ! Emplacement incroyable, à seulement 2 minutes de la ville mais on n’en a vraiment pas l’impression (et quelle petite ville fantastique), vues magnifiques, maison splendide (les photos ne lui rendent même pas justice), un silence absolu à l’extérieur que certains n’ont peut-être jamais connu, lit extrêmement confortable, toutes les commodités et fournitures dont vous pourriez avoir besoin et même plus, hôte gentille et attentionnée. Ce que Mel a créé ici sur sa propriété pour le partager avec nous tous est vraiment rare et inoubliable. P.S. : les montagnes changent vraiment de couleur ! There are so many great things to say, how can I possibly list them all! Incredible location, just 2 minutes from town but it sure doesn’t feel like it (and what a fantastic little town it is), gorgeous views, beautiful home (the pictures can’t even do it justice), complete silence outdoors that some people may have never experienced before, extremely comfortable bed, all of the amenities and supplies you need and then some, kind and thoughtful host. What Mel has created here on her property to share with all of us is something truly rare and unforgettable. P.S. the mountains really do “change color!”

Cet endroit était incroyable ; tellement charmant, confortable et parfaitement situé. J'ai adoré avoir l'impression d'être loin de tout, entouré de beauté, tout en étant à seulement quelques minutes en voiture de l'entrée du parc, de la station-service et de tout ce que Terlingua a à offrir. Tout était propre, bien aménagé et Mel était préparée et toujours disponible pour aider si besoin. Mes matinées sur le porche me manquent déjà ! Je reviendrai sans aucun doute ! This place was amazing; so charming, cozy and in a perfect location. I loved feeling like I was away from it all surrounded by beauty while also being a short drive to the park entrance, gas station, and everything Terlingua has to offer. Everything was clean, set up well and Mel was prepared and always there to help with everything if needed. I already miss my mornings on the front porch! I will be back without a doubt!

C’était très proche de tout en ville, contrairement à d’autres endroits où nous avons séjourné à Terlingua. Nous avons adoré avoir le choix entre une douche intérieure ou extérieure. Le lit était très confortable. Il y avait aussi un lit à l’extérieur et un télescope pour observer les étoiles, ce qui était une touche vraiment unique. La vue était incroyable – je pourrais me réveiller avec ça tous les jours. Nous ne voulions plus partir. Réservez et PROFITEZ-EN ! Mel’s place is beautiful and there are so many special touches she added that make it an unforgettable experience. It was very close to everything in town unlike other places we’ve stayed in Terlingua. We loved having the option of an indoor or outdoor shower. Bed was so comfy. There was also a bed outside and a telescope for stargazing which was such a unique touch. The view was incredible - I could wake up to that every day. We didn’t want to leave. Book it and ENJOY!

La cabane de Melanie est un endroit très spécial auquel elle a apporté beaucoup de soin pour le rendre accueillant et confortable. Je ne saurais trop insister sur le caractère paisible et la beauté du site où se trouve la cabane. Melanie était toujours disponible en cas de besoin, mais je n'ai vraiment eu besoin de rien car elle a anticipé tout ce qu'un invité pourrait souhaiter pour passer un excellent séjour. Merci pour la vue depuis le porche et le lit extérieur sous les étoiles avec vue sur la lune et le ciel. Un endroit très calme mais à seulement quelques minutes de la ville. Nous sommes restés 6 jours et aurions aimé rester plus longtemps. Melanie's Cabin is a very special place that she has taken great care to make inviting and comfortable. I can't say enough about how peaceful and scenic a location in which the cabin is located. Melanie was always available if needed and I really didn't need anything because she has anticipated a guests needs for having a great stay. Thank you for the views from the porch and the outside star bed with views of the moon and sky. A very quiet location but only minutes to town. Stayed for 6 days and wanted to stay longer.

Be prepared for a mile and a half of moderate bumpy dirt roads getting to the cabin once you turn off the highway. A high clearance vehicle is helpful, but your sedan CAN make it, if you are comfortable with the conditions. If it rains (USUALLY June thru Sept. There can be random rain showers at any time), the road may become muddy or even impassable at times, but normally dries up quickly. 4wd can help in those conditions, but it's best to just relax and wait it out. That's what the locals do! Big Bend is always an adventure!
